Kailian: Hearth & Harvest
Pre-Colonial Agrarian Strategy & Language Revitalization Simulation
What Is Kailian?
Before foreign galleons reached Northern Luzon, ancient Ilokano communities built one of the world's most sophisticated communal agro-ecological systems. In Kailian, you don't conquer territories or exploit neighbors. Your victory is keeping your entire village fed, culturally rooted, and resilient against seasonal typhoons.
How The Turn Loop Works
Each round represents a critical phase of the ancestral northern agricultural calendar. Players coordinate communal labor, allocate mountain water rights, and prepare for storms:
The 4 Seasonal Cycles
-
01
Panagarado (Plowing): Harness the Nuang (Carabao / Kalabaw) and open gravity canals to irrigate fertile lowland paddies (Talon).
-
02
Panagmula (Planting): Sow heirloom rice (Pagay), cultivate legumes, and deploy coastal boats (Bangka) to the coral reefs.
-
03
Panagani (Harvest): Practice Ammoyo mutual work-exchange (Tagalog: Bayanihan). Store milled rice (Bagas) and feast together before monsoons arrive.
-
04
Panag-inana (Rest & Weaving): Gather around the family hearth (Balay), weave protective optical Binakol Inabel cloth, and score community resilience points.
Bilingual Philippine Heritage: Ilokano & Tagalog
Designed for diaspora learners, heritage families, and cultural educators. Every card, structure, and quest pairs verified, authentic living Ilokano with its Tagalog counterpart (such as Ammoyo ↔ Bayanihan, Kailian ↔ Kababayan, Timek ↔ Tinig, Talon ↔ Palayan, and Nuang ↔ Kalabaw). Players absorb everyday living greetings, kinship titles, and harvest terms across both major Philippine languages through active strategy.
